Bulk Bag Dischargers: Features & Integration Guide

Bulk Bag Support Frameworks:
Upper and lower bulk bag unloader frameworks combine to safely support and contain the bulk bag and its materials. The bulk bag is loaded into the bag frame by a dedicated hoist, fork truck, or customer supplied hoist. Regardless of the style of bulk bag frame utilized, it should be designed so the operator never stands directly under the bulk bag during all phases of positioning and discharging the big bag's materials.

The standard capacity of the framework is 4000 lbs. and is constructed of 4” sq. structural tubing. The upper frame section has 36” of height adjustability to accommodate a wide range of bag sizes.

Bulk Bag Hangers:
The bulk bag is attached to a bag hanger for raising and positioning the bag into the bag unloader support frame. All bag hangers allow easy attachment of the bag loops while securely holding the bag in place within the bulk bag unloader. Bag hangers can incorporate options that retain bulk bag liners and prevent bag liners from extruding through the discharge spout into downstream process equipment during bulk bag unloading.

The standard fork lift-style hanger includes all necessary guides to allow easy loading of the bag into the framework. It includes manually adjustable bulk bag support hooks for various bag sizes.

Bulk Bag Flow Aids:
Bag massagers and deblocking devices are a necessary component of bulk bag unloaders when dry material packs above the discharge spout or becomes severely agglomerated when stored in bulk bags. Bulk bag flow aids are designed to continuously induce material flow through the discharge spout of the bulk bag so material unloading is consistent.

Massage Paddles

Each paddle is actuated by a 6" bore pneumatic cylinder that raises the paddle to a vertical position with the flow aid portion of the paddle reaching 15° past vertical. Heavy Duty (HD) massage paddles utilize two 6" bore pneumatic cylinders per paddle.

Each ram is actuated by a 3-1/2" bore hydraulic cylinder that provides the force to effectively crush severely agglomerated lumps into smaller chunks that can pass through the discharge spout of the bag.

The operator interface with the discharge spout of the bulk bag varies depending on the bag style and dry material flow characteristics. The design objective for every bulk bag unloading application is a user-friendly access to untie and retie the bulk bag's spout while providing dust-free and complete material unloading from the bag.

Untie Box

The untie box provides an enclosed area for the operator to access the tie strings on the discharge spout of the bulk bag. A large hinged door on the face of the untie box allows the operators to easily access the bag spout. The top of the untie box is flanged for connection to a flow control valve while the bottom is flanged for connection to existing process equipment or material transfer systems.

The pinch-type spout lump deblocker breaks apart lumps that get wedged in the discharge spout of the bag.

Inflatable Bladder Seal

The inflatable bladder seal provides dust control when used with lined bags. The operator places the spout of the bag inside the untie box and pulls the outer liner over the bladder seal. The bladder seal is inflated against the spout forming a dust tight seal.

A sloped support pan safely maintains the bulk bag in the discharge position within the bag framework.

Bulk Bag Piercing Hopper

A removable triangular blade assembly pierces the center of unspouted bags to allow the material to discharge. A large diaphragm forms to the bottom of the bag while it is lowered on to the blade assembly to reduce dusting during the discharge process.

E3 Discharge System

The E3 provides a dust-tight seal with the discharge spout of the bag and eliminates the potential for contaminates to enter the process. The double-wall design prevents material spillage when untying, retying, or removing an empty bag. With the E3 in the lowered discharge position, the spout of the bag is maintained in a taught, open cylindrical position which promotes material flow from the bag.

Various capacity surge hoppers can be utilized to provide continuous material supply while removing empty bags and loading full bags into the discharger. The U-shaped hopper includes a mechanical agitator that eliminates the potential for material to bridge or rat hole above the inlet to material conveying equipment. The agitator design draws the material away from the sides and directs it through the center discharge on a consistent and reliable basis.
